Maison Pature

Avize - Champagne

Elian &Mateo Pature

Elian and Matéo Pature are still only in their mid-20s, but they already possess something truly special. They are incredibly kind, curious, and full of energy, and you immediately sense that their relationship with Champagne is not about image, but about a love for the place, family, and work. Maison Pature is their own house, but it is also the culmination of something that has been in the family for a long time. They have inherited their grandmother's seven Grand Cru parcels in Côte des Blancs, and with them, they have a starting point that very few young producers can even dream of.

What makes the story even stronger is that the family previously sold all their fruit to Louis Roederer, where it was used for Cristal, while some vintages were stored in barrels. Elian and Matéo have now given these barrels new life through their own late disgorgements in L’Assemblage de la Marysa and La Marysa 2013. It feels like an incredibly beautiful way to begin: with respect for the family, but with their own name and their own direction clearly inscribed in the project. And then there's Premiers Pas — their very first cuvée — which is already enormously good. It doesn't taste like a cautious first step. It tastes like the beginning of something that could become truly great.

About Maison Pature

Maison Pature belongs to the type of new Champagne houses that you quickly want to follow closely. Not just because the story is strong, but because the wines already have so much identity. The house is rooted in Avize and works with Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, and Oger), which is some of the most sought-after terroir for Blanc de Blancs in all of Champagne. Several of their plots border on Selosse's vineyards, and this is also evident in their ambition: they are not thinking small. It's about chalk, energy, length, salt, and precision, but also about making champagnes with personality and presence.

The first thing you taste is how clear their style already is. Premiers Pas has that lively, chalky freshness and the lift you hope for from young Chardonnay-based champagnes with serious origins, but there's more than that. There's form, direction, and a certainty that is quite remarkable so early on. La Marysa 2013 and L’Assemblage de la Marysa give another depth to the house, more layers, more history, more time, and make it clear that Maison Pature is not just built on youthful energy, but also on something inherited and very valuable.

The next big chapter will be Enfants du Village, based in 2023. Maison Pature is very much a house that has grown out of its own place. They are children of the village, children of the Côte des Blancs, children of a family history that is now being lifted into a new generation. For me, they have everything you dream of in an upcoming star in Champagne: charm, talent, superb vineyard material, and a first handful of wines that already make you prick up your ears. They are going to become very big and truly exciting to follow.
