Domaine de Montille Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints-Juliens 2021
Frost may have ravaged Burgundy in April 2021, but de Montille’s Aux Saints-Juliens emerged with a grace sharpened by scarcity. From just 0.73 ha of sixty-year-old vines at the foot of Les Thorey, the wine knits iron-laced limestone spice to red-currant purity and rose-petal lift. One-third whole clusters heighten perfume, while only twenty percent new oak leaves terroir unadorned. Roughly three thousand bottles were drawn - a village Nuits of ballerina finesse with quietly latent depth.

The Domaine
Domaine de Montille’s roots trace to the 1730s, yet its modern renaissance began when Hubert de Montille revived the family holdings in 1947. Today Etienne de Montille and winemaker Brian Sieve steward thirty-five hectares farmed organically and biodynamically, using significant whole-cluster fermentations and restrained new oak to showcase site precision. Their wines marry aromatic clarity with classical backbone, earning a fervent global following. Low yields and an uncompromising terroir-first ethos keep allocations perpetually oversubscribed.
