Domaine Robert Groffier is one of the great reference points of the Côte de Nuits. Les Amoureuses, Bonnes Mares and Chambertin Clos de Bèze give the domaine a singular weight, and under Nicolas Groffier the level has been raised further still.

Nicolas Groffier
Nicolas Groffier joined the family domaine in 2006 and runs it today together with his wife, Céline. He is one of the most interesting winemakers of his generation: analytical, uncompromising, and at the same time highly sensitive to the small differences between parcels. He works without any need to put himself on display. The ambition can be tasted directly in the wines.
Groffier has always carried a great name and unusually strong vineyards. Nicolas has made the wines more transparent. The fruit stands clearer, whole clusters are used with greater assurance, and the tannin has become more detailed. The wines still have the sensuality and depth that made Groffier famous, and the individual terroirs have become even easier to tell apart.
This is also why Groffier today ranks among the producers who define the modern Côte de Nuits. The greatest wines have grand cru depth and enormous ageing potential, while the smaller cuvées carry the same care and precision. Rarité represents the domaine exclusively in Denmark from the 2024 vintage.

The domaine is based in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis and farms just under eight hectares. Its core lies in Chambolle-Musigny, where the family is the largest private owner in Les Amoureuses with around one hectare. To this come Les Hauts-Doix, adjoining Les Amoureuses, Les Sentiers below Bonnes Mares, and a holding of around one hectare in Bonnes Mares itself. In Gevrey-Chambertin, Groffier works with Les Seuvrées and a rare parcel of roughly 0.50 hectares in Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
From 2022, Nicolas began vinifying the two distinctly different parts of Les Amoureuses separately. La Grâce des Argiles comes from the more clay-rich section and gives the deeper, darker and more structured interpretation. La Délicatesse des Sables comes from the sandy section and is more floating, perfumed and fine-grained. The division is a striking illustration of the level of detail Nicolas works at.
In 2024 the wines are made with whole clusters, around 12 months in barrel followed by roughly three months in tank. The proportion of new oak is normally around 15–25 per cent; Clos de Bèze receives 100 per cent new oak. The wines are bottled unfiltered. The technical work is precise, but what matters is the result: wines of impressive concentration, great aromatic lift and a texture that grows ever more refined with air and age.

The smallest wine in the range is still unmistakably Groffier. Juicy red berries, pepper, violet and the fine, dry tannin carry the domaine's full signature. The wine is open from the first glass and has a depth and seriousness that lift it far above its category. A rare glimpse of Groffier's craft outside the great appellations.
Bourgogne Côte d’Or, Jardins de Marie & Léa Régionale

Jardins de Marie & Léa shows a clear kinship with the Chambolle wines: bright perfume, roses, red cherries and a fine-grained structure. The fruit is pure and precise, and the wine has a length rarely found at regional level. It shows why Groffier is so sought after throughout the range.
Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Seuvrées Village

Les Seuvrées has more dark fruit and spice than the domaine's Chambolle wines, but keeps Groffier's characteristic perfume and fine tannin. The position close to Morey gives a beautiful blend of Gevrey's power and a more fluid, stony texture. A village wine with marked depth and assured ageing potential.
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Hauts-Doix Premier Cru

Les Hauts-Doix is one of the wines that most clearly shows Groffier's class. The nose is lifted and complex with violet, roses and dark raspberries, while the palate is silken yet deep. Geographically it lies close to Les Amoureuses and shares the same particular combination of sensuality and tension. In strong vintages it plays at a level many grand crus would envy.
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, Les Sentiers Premier Cru

Les Sentiers is the darker, more structured side of Chambolle. The proximity to Bonnes Mares is felt in the firm mineral core, the deep fruit and the long, spiced finish. Groffier's interpretation has both power and perfume, and it develops an almost grand cru-like complexity with time.
Les Amoureuses, La Grâce des Argiles Premier Cru
The clay-rich part of the family's roughly one hectare in Les Amoureuses · vinified separately since 2022
La Grâce des Argiles is the deeper of the two Amoureuses cuvées. The fruit is darker, the tannin denser and the structure more monumental, yet the wine never loses the famous Amoureuses perfume. It is one of the most complete premier cru wines in Burgundy and a wine that stands comfortably alongside the region's great grand crus.
Les Amoureuses, La Délicatesse des Sables Premier Cru
The sandy part of Les Amoureuses · separate harvest and vinification
La Délicatesse des Sables is airier and more perfumed than the Argiles. The nose unfolds in roses, red berries, spices and stone, while the texture is remarkably fine and almost weightless. The finish is saline, persistent and full of detail. A rare wine that shows precisely why Les Amoureuses holds a status reaching far beyond premier cru.
Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Around one hectare · one of the domaine's largest single holdings
Groffier's Bonnes Mares has enormous depth. Dark berries, violet, stone and spice gather in a wine of great tannin and immense length. It demands time and rewards it. When it opens, it is among the most majestic and perfumed interpretations of the vineyard.
Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Approx. 0.42–0.50 ha · 100 per cent new oak in 2024 · the domaine's rarest wine
Clos de Bèze is the summit of the domaine and a wine of almost unlimited depth. It gathers dark fruit, spices, smoke, flowers and chalk in a dense, precise structure. The new oak disappears into the material, and the length is immense. A great cellar wine and one of the bottles that explains Groffier's position among Burgundy's most important domaines.
