Domaine Adrien Emond

Domaine Adrien Emond

Séguret · Sydrhône

With his first vintage, Adrien Emond has made a wine that immediately changes expectations of Séguret. Les Jardins 2025 is pale, alive and unusually fine, and places him among the young producers worth following from the very beginning.

Behind the domaine

Adrien Emond

Adrien trained through an unusually strong series of domaines: François Carillon, Domaine Faiveley, Domaine Santa Duc and three years with Cécile Tremblay from 2018 to 2021. There he came to know the precision of the great white Burgundies, the classical discipline of the Côte d'Or and the old Grenache material of the southern Rhône.

He works warmly, openly and with a very clear idea of style. The wines should have pale colour, perfume, juice and acidity, while the old vines supply the depth. The debut is remarkably assured and already tastes like the beginning of something that could matter greatly for the region.

Rarité was among the first to follow Adrien and has secured a fine Danish allocation. Interest is already considerable, and it will only grow. Adrien will not remain under the radar for long. He has the experience, the material and the necessary taste to become a new point of reference in the southern Rhône.

Vineyards and cellar

Four parcels and old vines in Séguret

Les Jardins 2025 is Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret and consists of 50 per cent Grenache, 25 per cent Syrah and 25 per cent Mourvèdre. The grapes come from four parcels totalling 2.3 hectares with vines around 50 years old. The vineyards are farmed along organic principles, lightly ploughed and surrounded by trees.

The first vintage was blended so that Adrien could form the most complete picture of his material. The plan is gradually to vinify the parcels separately as he comes to know them even better. It offers a rare opportunity to follow a domaine from the very beginning.

Fermentation is spontaneous over around five weeks with 20 per cent whole bunches and very gentle extraction. The wine matures for roughly eight months, of which 35 per cent in used Burgundian demi-muids. The result is a Rhône wine with the depth of old vines, but with a lightness and aromatic clarity that feels entirely new for the area.

The wines

Les Jardins 2025 Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret · debutårgang

50 per cent Grenache, 25 per cent Syrah, 25 per cent Mourvèdre · four parcels, 2.3 ha · vines c. 50 years old · 20 per cent whole bunches · c. 8 months' élevage

Les Jardins is remarkably pale in colour and almost Burgundian in expression. Red berries, pepper, violet, wild herbs and a beautiful acidity make for a fine, vivid wine, while Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre build depth beneath the light surface. It is a debut of unusual assurance and one of the most convincing new wines from the southern Rhône in many years.
